It seems like I’ll never know how to rate Kelly Braffet’s book.
Weird, strange, extremely unlikeable characters with an engaging writing style!

“He was my brother. He was the pivot around which my life had revolved. He was the only person who had ever loved me.”
The book is told by Josie, a teenage girl who has a strong, and I mean STRONG, dependence on her sociopathic older brother, Jack. They approach the world together after leaving their abusive father, but Josie always seems to be hit the hardest by her brother’s erratic choices. She loves Jack, but will his love for her cause her to be unhappy forever?
Overall, I give this book 2 out of 5 skulls. I was so excited to read this one, as the sibling team-up thrillers tend to be good, but this fell short for me. The interactions with smaller characters either bored me or was drawn out. I hated both main characters, especially with the older brother’s jealousy and psycho tendencies.

This book reminded me a bit of that movie Cruel Intentions.

Reading this book is like watching footage taken seconds before a natural disaster. From the start you know that it can't end well, there is no happy ending, but the characters are so compelling that you can't help but want everything to turn out okay. There was such a darkness to this novel that just crept in at the edges and almost felt familiar by the end. I don't think I will forget this one in a hurry!!!

Josie Raeburn comes of age after a lonely childhood spent only with her alcoholic, abusive father and her jealous brother Jack.

I read this years ago and fell in love with the characters, writing and story. It's a beautiful, beautiful book that I would recommend to anyone who happens to bump into me whilst I'm reading it.
I remember it was called something different then, though I may be mistaken.
Will read again and write a better review.
