I feel like this would’ve been a 5 star if a) this was the first Patrick Ness book I’ve read and b) I was still 17. Honestly, I wish I’d read this back when I was 17. I feel I would’ve enjoyed it a lot more. To tell you the truth, I wasn’t in the right frame of mind to do much reading back then😂.

Anyway, aside from the obvious “I’m not the target audience” thing, I enjoyed it. I’ve always loved Patrick Ness. I’ve thoroughly loved every single one of his books and this was no different.

My favourite parts were always the beginning of the chapters, however. I just love how they were written “Chapter the fourteenth, in which....”. I won’t spoil it for you!

For most of the book, you’re following two storylines — one in the chapter headings, and one in the body of the text. I loved this aspect and it’s largely what clinched the 4-star rating for me. If you’re a lover of Patrick Ness like me, you can’t miss it!
