So very much enjoyed Kate Winslet's reading of this novel. I don't really agree with the comparisons to Madame Bovary because every. single. character. in this book is a blithering idiot. That being said, I had to know what happened next and I never could have pronounced the street names and idiot names soooo sexytime as Kate does.

2.5 stars really. Luckily this book was short. I didn't love the book, although the writing was fine. I found that I couldn't connect with the story or the characters. I decided to read this first before I stepped my toe into his Rougons-Macquart cycle.
