you can always count on jennifer lynn barnes to deliver a book with a messed up family tree and an even more messed up plot that i, ofc, eat up every time.

I loved The Naturals by Jennifer Barnes, and I’ve had this on my to-read list for a while. I don't typically read mystery or thriller, and this is might be because of my personal preferences, but the political murder mystery wasn’t even in the front of my mind when I was reading this book.
What kept the book moving for me was the fleshed out characters and how they reacted to their circumstances. Tess is an endearing protagonist dumped into the world of politics and the upper class, Vivie's personality really shines, and Ivy's shaky relationship with Tess was by far the best plotline in my opinion.
With such a huge cast of characters, there a bound to be a few that I didn’t really connect with. Asher was the typical bad boy archetype, Bodie was the typical comic relief character, and Adam was the bad boy archetype 2.0. None of these characters were bad by any means. They each had their moments where they broke away from their stereotype, but they weren’t quite highlighted until the ending.
Ohhhh the ending.
Without getting into the spoilers, I'll say that it left me simultaneously so satisfied and so hungry for the sequel. 10/10 recommend even if you don’t typically read mystery.

Funny, sarcastic, emotional and much more. I loved it and I definitely recommend for people who like mystery books with strong independent main characters.
