This book actually surprised me. I guess I've been reading too many cheating husband/ scorned wife books lately and wasn't prepared for a neglected wife ( no cheating) wakes up and realizes that she needs a partner who actually pays attention to her.
Chris and Jenzy are in Their late 20s. They had a whirlwind romance in college, got married and now Jenzie doesn't recognize her husband anymore.
Hes no longer caring, sweet and tender. Now he just forgets she exists; for thr last 2 years he doesn't remember her birthday or valentines day. She got nothing for Christmas . He also doesn't take her to his fancy work award parties, nor does he seem to care about her career or even her interests.
Jenny has had enough and tells Chris one day that she wants a divorce and has met someone else that actually takes interest in her. Warning she does date the other man throughout their separation but swears they didn't have sex. I didn't see that as cheating as it's adter she separated but it could be seen as emotional cheating.
Chris is shaken from his fog and salutes he doesn't want to live Jenzy so he contests the divorce and forces marriage counseling on Jenzy. He goes to often ridiculous amounts of time and energy to try to win back Jenzys affection.
Is it too little too late or will Chris's possesive antics work?
I really enjoyed reading the book. I really despised Chris in the begining but the fact that he worked on himself, searching for the root cause of his behavior and wanted to be a better husband were important steps to him redeeming himself. Jenzt was quirky and you couldn't help butb love the fun , hippie.

I found the characters so immature. On one hand you have a little piece of site that even though his wife asked him for divorce, he still acts like a piece of site. On the other hand you have a neglected wife who is all about healthy relationships and stuff but she goes on a date one week after she left her husband? Fast forward there's supposed to have some regret and grovel (didn't really get it to tell you the truth) and then when she's on the verge of moving BAM she returns to her husband because of a letter? And their HEA was that they fight but all is solved having just smex? This is their solution? Seriously? Also I don't like calling your spouse, even as joke, swear words.

The whole book is a gRoVeL fEsT 🙄
Please, that man didn’t do jack shit to win Jenzy back.
I gave it a decent 3⭐️ because of the emotional scene after the banquet which was way overdue but the rest of the book was pretty tepid considering the subject. Also because of my sheer will and determination to finish it
I feel like Jenzy being a hippie was used as a cop out to make her a doormat. The whole peace, love, earth nature was used to not make her steadfast in her decision for the divorce. Everyone has their limits and it was a pity she never reached hers because she was continually written to rollover for Chris.
Chris was such an asshole and to make sure that we get an even better idea of just what a douche he is the author added the fact that he only dated/slept with married women. Ick! 🤮
It took this man too long to realise he “loved” his wife. What kind of husband allows the woman he loves to go on dates with another man? Actually, to have a year long relationship with another man. I can count on one hand the “grovel”🙄 to save his marriage and none of it was worth two years of hell he put her through. And then, the cherry on his douchbaggery was him resenting Jenzy for decisions he made. And knowing him, he probably didn’t even discuss those decisions with her and just blamed them on her.
I gave up on the book at around 42% because I was just tired of Jenzy’s constant bbs bullshit over some tattoos but I kept reading to see just how much worse it can get and I wasn’t let down that’s for sure 🙂
I really don’t understand why the author fought so hard to make us believe in Chris and Jenzy’s hea when they had absolutely nothing in common but hot sex. Even the flashbacks to the start of their relationship showed nothing but the hOt SeX. He was never supportive of anything she did, constantly belittled her and was embarrassed by her.
Why the hell was Moses in this story? You would think that a man seeing the love of his life happy with someone else would light a fire within him to win her back but all that did was make Chris sit alllllll the way back. So again I ask, why the hell was Moses in the story?
I truly thought the gesture some of the reviews were talking about would make me go “aww he really does love her 🥰”
All I got from that “gesture” was that he sees Jenzy as scatterbrained and in need of constant supervision 🙃
At 96% Jenzy was still squeamish about making messes and stuff. These two people didn’t talk about shit or suggest that they see a counselor. Just hot sex and vibes 🤌🏽
In conclusion, Jenzy had more chemistry with those herbal tinctures she mixed than with Chris 🙂 They should have gotten a divorce and she should have ended up with Moses ✌🏽
Rating~3
I read this book solely cause I wanted some angsty goodness and to feel angry. Which this book completely DELIVERS!
You want a story where the hero fucks up and has to spend the rest of the book getting back into good graces of the heroine you got it.
Jenzy and Chris are complete opposites and you truly feel for her because she really doesn't understand what happened to them and their marriage. She really goes through the whole maybe its this, maybe its me and trying to do so much to save her marriage before the heartbreak is too much to take. I felt so bad for her! She's trying to give it her all while this man barely acknowledges her existence when previously they were in love and happy.
Why not 5 stars?
The reason why this doesn't have a higher rating is because of Chris, I'm sure other people would be satisfied with the grovel, I found his reasoning behind his decision for why he actually started pulling away very frustrating. I felt he needed to do more than the dates he suggested, for all the crap he pulled for years, I just didn't feel like he was the guy for Jenzy. I feel like a few years down the lane, Chris and Jenzy would just have a repeat of this again because he resented her for giving that career that she wasn't even aware of. Even at the end, it was just so bland. Try harder mate.
I wanted to feel rage when I read this and [b:Empire of Hate|58511146|Empire of Hate (Empire, #3)|Rina Kent|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1644249655l/58511146._SX50_.jpg|91901205] so I guess they both achieved that, I did feel angry at the MMCs in both the book. Anyone looking for angst and heartbreak should give this one a go and you might actually like Chris and his grovel more than me.

Love the past reflections on their relationship and what led to the divorce. Love the banter between the characters including Todd and Mandy. Loved the grovelling but also the personal development of the Jenzy and Chris. Q&A at the end also helped understand the characters as well.

I liked this book but I found a few things when I was reading it that I found a bit annoying. I didn't like how Chris would use the divorce over her head or say horrible/mean things to her just to get into her head. I loved Jenzy though as she's a character that I've been wanting to read for a while now.
Spoiler
I loved how she tried to fix things but when she saw that it didn't workout she just calmly told him that she was leaving and was divorcing him. She didn't fluff around and left him with love which I had to definitely appreciate!Spoiler
While the grovel was good, I just didn’t buy that they were suppose to be together and the resolution was weak
BUT
Chris was so freaking funny like I laughed anytime he said something so it gave the book one more star
