If I had read this in high school I would have adored it!
Incredible queer representation!
The ending felt very rushed and it was like the pacing moved exponentially in the last 15% which kinda threw me off. I had to reread the last few chapters a few times to understand what was happening.
I saw the big twist coming from a ways away, probably 30% into the book, but still enjoyed the story anyways.
The final betrayal actual shocked me and I have questions…

I had such a good time reading this book! It took about 40% in to really get into the book(for me) and I’m so glad I stuck with it.

The magic she holds is so unique! I haven’t come across alot of fantasy books that have to do with plants, so I really enjoyed that. I really loved the relationship with her moms as well.

This is low key a mystery book and I had alot of fun reading it!

This was a nice read. I enjoyed all the representation this book had. The pace of the story was well done also.

I liked the MC, I just wished she was a bit more fearless, rather than so cautious and afraid to act. Loved her and Marie so sweet

This book was so promising. I loved the premise, the Greek mythology references, gothic vibes, magic and the black representation. Mo and Mom were great moms and also great representation. I thought the slams on whites were unnecessary and jarring, the “angry white man ghost,” not wanting to have a white woman inside her body, and that the town looked white. At the last one I DNF’d because I simply don’t enjoy that. Too bad because I really like the storyline. But again, there are these odd interjections so we can know how the author feels politically. The police are defunded because they were bad people. Social workers have taken their place, so they can come over and talk it out when you’ve got a trespasser?! What?? Ok. DNF
