A thrilling conclusion to the Culper Ring trilogy! I'm so glad I came back and read this origin series as it fills in so much of the history of the families of Roseanna White's cast of characters throughout her books.

What an exciting finale! This was my least favorite of the series(but I still really enjoyed!) mostly due the fact that the Civil War isn't my favorite story line time period and I didn't connect as well with Mari and Slade as I did with Wynter and Bennett and Gwen and Thad. The story moved well and kept me intrigued with a few surprises along the way. This is a FANTASTIC series. Be sure not to miss it!!

Amazing how Thaddeus Lane manages to be the hero of his second book here, even at 80 years old! He was easily the best character. This was a well written, enthralling story about my favorite time period. My primary complaint is that if we are going to have an alluringly beautiful woman trope, I'd like to have the hero be a man of character who can control himself enough to keep his hands off of her. But by allowing Marietta's beauty to turn his head, in my opinion Slade wasn't any better than the rest of them, and that was disappointing. I was given little insight into what made the couple a good long term match or how they bettered each other.

I Love this series and am sad to see it end. I'm hoping the Culper Ring might continue at some point because each story has been so good! This story is about two broken people who have made mistakes, but use their new found faith to try to work together to foil the plot on President Abraham Lincoln's life. Even though I knew what the outcome would be, I found myself riveted and hoping against hope that the outcome would be different. Marietta's abilities in this book are amazing, yet the gift of perfect recall is shown to be both a blessing and a curse. It's a great book with a swoon worthy hero. A fabulous ending to the series. Love this author!

Out of this entire series, I have to say that this book was my favorite. I have noticed that all of the series when I first start the book, I have a hard time starting and keeping up with the book. I would put it down and then life would get in the way and I wouldn't pick it up for a while. But when I sat down and started reading again, I would get drawn in and then can't put it down! While this series is a little too faith based for my taste, it made the books work and while I would say the same has happened in this book, it actually made the book better for me. I loved Slade and Marietta, and I felt a deep connection with the characters and the time period in this book than the others. I mean, I am biased as the Civil War is my favorite American time period, but that made the thrill and the secrets and the rush just much more powerful over me. I found it hard to give any book in this series a 5-star review, but this book had no trouble with that (except for the beginning, but then again that was my thoughts on the series as a whole). I am glad that I was able to pick this book back up and get swept up in the espionage and love and tragedy that made this book a favorite.

I liked this series. There is definitely a strong religious component (maybe a 5 or 6), which would be more annoying if the writing/plot development was weaker. As it was, it was an enjoyable series. I do find that Roseanna M. White can be pretty versatile in writing about religion. She keeps the religion conversation in context with the time and place. The religious aspects of this series differs quite a bit from her other series that takes place in a completely different time and location. I think this shows remarkable skill as well as a great deal of research.
