It wasn't like it was badly written or anything, I just didn't really care for it. (Though the writing style did bother me.) I'm sure some people will probably like it, but this wasn't for me. At least it was short, though.

This is a weird book. It is very short, it leaves a lot of things unanswered, and I hope there's a sequel, but it is an entertaining story. It's about a monster of some sort hunting a monster of another sort to save some little kids. No, not everything is explained, which is frustrating, but it's one of those stories that can get away with not explaining everything because it has to leave some mystery behind and it's just that brand of weird. I really enjoyed the main character, which is the most important thing. I hope there's more than just this story! I'd like to read more about this character. Also, I really enjoyed the way this was written. The title is just fantastic.

I didn't expect to like this so much given my reaction to Rupert Wong: Cannibal Chef, but I really liked this. The language is wonderful and the character is enjoyable to follow. The eldritch horror is sufficiently eldritch and horrific to be interesting. And the use of lost childhood innocence and familial abuse made the modestly lighthearted notion of a Chandler-esque eldritch horror a bit more real, adding gravity to the situation. Overall, it worked well for me.
