This is a good book club book for sure. Not sure how to explain that vibe. The ending was good but I found myself confused in the beginning, maybe because I was slightly uninterested in from jump. Idk how to write book reviews anymore, don't listen to me. The book was just fine. Would make an interesting movie. Thought it'd be more Spanish than it was. It was just a Latina in a British home

Holy shit. This book is so good. I didn’t really know what to expect or even what it was about. But it was so engaging and interesting. The plot was fantastic and had me saying wtf almost the entire time. I was never bored and there was never a dull moment. It is such a good horror/thriller and I genuinely had no idea what to expect and was so shocked by how the story took place. Read it.

A decent enough tale of Gothic Horror, but nothing groundbreaking. Enjoyable enough.

The book was slow at the beginning, Noemi is facing all sorts of trouble after she goes to visit her newly-married cousin. How she did not recognize the problem while stating the obvious is beyond me. I suppose it was the influence of the house. The repetitions of the fungus in the house became almost boring until it wasn't.

Spoiler:

I found it hard to believe that, while she kept mentioning the fungus that seemed to permeate the house, she failed to recognize what it was doing to her. I kept thinking very early on in the book that that house needed to be burned to the ground!

I read this for a book club, had I known the direction it was headed, I would have avoided it. Not my cup of tea at all.

Oh my gosh there's just so much. I loved this book so so much. The entire thing was so atmospheric and weird and the weirdness was also palpable and uncomfortable but also I was weirdly drawn to it. I read this book for school and I probably never would've ever gotten around to reading it otherwise (I was always intrigued by it but it is horror and normally I wouldn't read a horror novel). I am so grateful that this class made me read this book because I am absolutely OBSESSED WITH IT. the imagery! the racial commentary! the commentary about power and greed and self-destruction! the CHARACTERS! So good. Highly recommend.
