So I have saved my little stack of fluffy Christmas stories to read during this time of year and imagine my surprise when I dug into this one! 25 days ‘til Christmas is a lovely holiday story with some depth- less Hallmark story and more Lifetime move story. While no Pulitzer winner, this will give you all of the holiday feels without the saccharine taste and corniness. I totally enjoyed it and will be looking for more of Alexander’s novels!

If lighthearted, uplifting Christmas story is something you are looking for you will want to avoid this one.

I’m going to keep this review short and sweet because I understand what the author was trying to do with this book, but it just didn’t work for me. I couldn’t connect with any of the characters and instead of getting a lighthearted holiday read like I was expecting, I ended up with a depressing story about a single underpaid and over-worked mom who couldn’t catch a break. I respect the hardships the characters were suffering, but for a holiday read it was much more of a downer than I was looking for and found myself not picking it up very often. I ended struggling through this book to the end most likely because it was for a buddy read and I didn’t want to slack in our discussions, but had this been one I picked up on my own, it probably would have been a DNF for me.

The whole time I was reading this I thought how much of a good movie this would be. It was so touching, and hit me deeply being a mom myself. I'm very glad I picked this up and gave it a try!

I understand that the Christmas time isn’t always a happy time for everyone, but this was just a bit too depressing. I also didn’t really like Kate.
