I enjoyed this. I'd like to know more about the world.

This is a prequel, y’all. It’s gritty and intense - so much so that it turned me off at the beginning. But it builds into something intriguing and new. Looking forward to Michael Livingston’s Seaborn Cycle series.

Pretty decent audible original and I liked that it was short! Was so fast to get through.

How we all wish Shackleton’s trip went..

I don't usually expect much from free Audible originals, but this book was actually really good. I find myself wanting more stories from their world and I loved the narration by Janine Edwards.

The Audible Included library has some real highs and lows, which this fits rather neatly in the middle of.

If I was told there was a story about Queer Black pirates that includes coming to terms with being disabled and a discussion about how gender hierarchy is not a good thing, I would be ready to bite your hand off. Sadly, this one didn't quite deliver for me.

The writing itself is decent and the worldbuilding, in the cultural stories and some references, is pretty good, but I just didn't find the story or characters engaging, despite really being my kind of thing on paper.

The narration is pretty great.

Your mileage may vary, but this wasn't my cup of tea.

Perhaps high fantasy isn't for me. I found this story very hard to follow and all of the characters blurred together. I didn't find that I related to or cared about any of them. Not for me. 1/5.

The audible originals are always hit or miss, but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The story is vivid and real, and I wouldn't mind hearing more of Bela and Tu's adventures in the future.
