A beautiful entry in the Discworld (City watch) series. A great look into Vimes and a meditation on the roots of the beginnings of the City Watch Discworld stories.

I love how Prattchet writes his comedy mixed with real criticism, this entry is alot darker than most Discworld books but really adds to the themes and story it is telling.

Hilarious and wholesome.

Another beautiful entry to the City Watch series. While I cannot stand most time travel stories because authors typically have such a poor grasp of the concept, this one focuses less on the mechanics and uses it more as a vehicle for the story. It's really not about the time travel, but more the event that is being relived. I was also surprised to discover just how focused this book is compared to the rest of the Discworld series. There are very minimal detours and the storytelling is laser focused on telling Sam's story. It gets a little bloodier than most of the other titles, but I appreciate the continued growth of Sam Vimes' character, particularly in light of the conclusion to Fifth Elephant.

Excellent book!! I love Les Mis, and I appreciated this take on it, with the criticism and the hope. I wasn’t a fan of the whole - if you make a law that weapons are illegal, how are innocent people supposed to protect themselves - as a gun control parallel, it has not aged well. Still, I loved seeing Vimes confront how far he’s come since he started in the Watch and realize what a difference he has made.

I also loved seeing young Vetinari, and the fact that Vimes wasn’t a revolutionary or on the side of Winder. And the discussion of how “the People” are always more conservative, problematic, etc than revolutionaries or whoever want them to be. Because the issue is that you’re trying to solve the people vs accepting how they are and solving the problems they face. Also! Loved the scene with Vimes sitting in front of the open Watch house and preventing a riot, and insisting the secret police sign for the prisoners, and generally making a nuisance of himself. A hopeful book!!
