Another solid trade. Things are moving a bit quicker, and pieces seem to be getting put into place for a bigger moment. Tyler Crook does a great job with the character work and pretty good on the monsters and action. Dave Stewart, as always, keeps the book looking like it’s supposed to.

The Hell On Earth era begins with the team almost completely disbanded. Things are fittingly dire and melancholic, but it’s also a bit too disjointed. I’m a little surprised that more non-human or not-fully-human characters haven’t been introduced yet. We get one in the Russia arc, but he doesn’t seem like he’s going to become part of the BPRD. The Liz stuff is maybe some of the weakest parts. It feels a little too regressive for the character. The art is solid across the board. Tyler Crook does a fine bit of filling in and Dave Stewart keeps everything looking consistent as always.

Wow, I did not want to put this down. Every time I had a spare moment, I wanted to chew through more of this. I started reading the much slimmer third volume of Alan Moore's acclaimed Swamp Thing run a bit before I started reading this, but here I am done with this beefy book already while Swamp Thing is under the next volume in this series.

Hell on Earth maybe, but heaven on the page.

That was a fun pithy quote off the cuff. Truly though, I really enjoyed this.

meh, this entire book felt pretty unnecessary and like it could have been done in about 10 pages.

Maybe 3.75/5 - good stories, but New World and Monsters felt more like 4-issue stories drawn out. Still, the BPRD team consistently delivers a solid story.

Sad to see Guy Davis depart, but Tyler Crook is great in his own way.

Fun read. Well balanced characters and the stories move at a great pace. Just enough weirdness to make it really crazy, but not enough to make it hard to follow.

3.75 stars.
Really good, but the last story arc, Return of the Master, felt over stuffed and a bit hard to follow. But still darn good monster fights. Best in the biz.

I really loved this arc. It feels like all the pieces have been put in place, like what comes next will be the culmination of everything Hell on Earth has been building toward. I can't wait to see what happens next.

I still miss Davis's artwork, but Crook's pencils are growing on me. And there's more plot --- they're getting the band back together!

There are some cool scenes of Liz with flames and torching things.
