3.5. This is a great introduction into HG Wells writing. I very much enjoyed the prose. It wasn't my favorite of plots but definitely a classic in its own right.

Unexpectedly good. A few word choices and racist descriptions that haven't held up.
This book is filled with twists and turns. It kept me needing to know what happened next and I felt increasingly tense as it progressed. Not that this is a bad thing. My distaste towards the invisible man grew throughout the book and while his end was rather gruesome, I was glad that he was no longer able to terrorise. I feel that his character was developed very well and I liked the fact that, as more of his story was revealed, the more the reader was shown his true colours. I always disliked his anger but it was only after his storytelling to Kemp that I realised that his anger was unjust and that this was all his own doing. Overall, the book was very enjoyable and I would definitely recommend it. It was scary but not in the type that will keep me up at night (which is definitely a good thing because I am easily scared).

Well, I can understand why it's considered a Classic, and I can understand how, in 1897, it was certainly ahead of its time and a sci-fi book, and I can understand how it set in motion a yearning for more sci-fi among the masses... but I don't think it's stood the test of time, unless you do what Blumhouse did with its 2020 The Invisible Man (take out all of the "old" science and replace it with the "new" science and turn it into a horror story rather than purely a sci-fi story)... on its own, it seems rather silly. Still, it was worth the read overall in my opinion, and someday I'm sure I'll read The Time Machine as well.

Honestly it bored me. But I can see how it’s an important early science-fiction piece.
