Rating: 2.5 stars. The writing was alright, relatively straightforward and easier to read than I've anticipated. The story was rather short (and could be even shorter, cutting out some meaningless fight scenes, in my humble opinion), but well, it wasn't bad. It just wasn't the kind of story that makes that much on an impact on me.

Some things seem lacking: the characters are rather flat and the psychological side is non-existent, which is a shame as it could be so interesting to explore (like in [b:The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Other Tales of Terror|51497|The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Other Tales of Terror|Robert Louis Stevenson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1611125128l/51497._SY75_.jpg|17441791], which really gives me chills. To my disappointment, the Invisible Man is a thoroughly unlikeable man from the start, and he didn't become worse when he went invisible -- he was already a terrible person. (smashing things like that whenever you get angry, how did you even become a chemist??) His ultimate motive of, excuse me here -- *Reign of Terror* -- is absolutely pathetic. Don't he realise however people may fear him, he's only one person, susceptible to ills and ailments and being murdered in his sleep?

All in all, I do think this book is skippable. It wasn't about a mad scientist's descent to madness, if the mad scientist in question is mad even before the first page. Now I begin to appreciate why we talk about ethics in science class -- we do need to learn how far to go, and when to stop as the future of powerful discoveries are already steamrolling towards us.

Really fun little book! Lots of suspense, with some bits of farce.

Wells was so vibrant and jaunty in this short tale. His characters felt real and full, despite one being literally invisible. A pleasure!

This book has a lot of slapstick elements along withthe standard 'mad' scientist
