Old books like this one was probably innovative and creative for its time but it does not hold up much. This book doesn't really surprise you with anything. Some scenes are great and provoke extremely vivid imagery:

("But for a second it seemed to her that the man she looked at had an enormous mouth wide open—a vast and incredible mouth that swallowed the whole of the lower portion of his face. It was the sensation of a moment: the white-bound head, the monstrous goggle eyes, and this huge yawn below it.")

But it is not worth the time with such cast of characters. If they were an unnamed hordes of civilians it would have made no difference. With a few exceptions of the protagonist and the antagonist. There was one interesting side character that could've made for a dramatic revenge plotline, but said character was only ever name dropped and never appeared again in the second part of the book.

There is probably some sort of metaphor you can dig out of a story about an easily irritated Invisible Man ravaging the random townspeople. Maybe it's about the cold war, the spy of the enemy state, the invisible threat, the savagery and uncare for civilized acts that stemmed from anonymity. Maybe it's not that deep, and it's just about a psychotic bloke from England throwing hands invisibly until someone had enough of him.

I love me some nineteenth century horror. Have you seen the recent movie with Elizabeth Moss? I love that this story keeps being retold, even though the new movie is a completely new take on the story.

DNF. Was just very boring. I don't care to find out how an asshole scientist made himself invisible. Because he's an asshole. I read around ¾ and just gave up. Failed to hold my attention.

I ended up reading this because I felt like it was a gap in my classic reading knowledge. I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly the story went and how much I enjoyed reading it. Instead of wanting to put it down every couple chapters, I found myself reading for longer periods of time (something I normally don't do with classic literature). My only slight complaint is that I wasn't the biggest fan of the writing style, especially during flashback-esque sequences that explained the past. I found those in particular to be a little dry, but other than that it was a great read and a great addition to my library!

It took me a good while, but I finished it at last! The book was short and interesting, but I had trouble reading it for some odd reason. I guess I'm not into scientific books like this. As I said, it was interesting, very interesting.

A stranger man with spectacles, a bandage about his face, and stays in a cap and coat causes suspicion. His bad temper, odd ways, and loneliness is the beginning of the end for the Invisible Man.

The ending was rather abrupt, but the storyline was good and kept me engaged...when I did read it.

The Invisible Man is a good book but somewhat slow and boring. Though this story has a great premise, the novel is not nearly as good as The Time Machine, but is similarly iconic. I would not recommend this to anyone expecting a fast paced action story.

Well one of the few books I’ve read that I enjoyed the movie more than the actual book. And the movie wasn’t even anything like the book. One thing the movie did get right is that the invisible man is a complete butthole. I was really into it for the last quarter but the first 75 percent was kindaaa slow for me. Maybe it’s because I had just read Rebecca which was amazing, this book in comparison was just a wet sandwich.
