Well researched and chock full of information, but contains (in my opinion) an undue amount of information on pirates of fiction (movies, etc) and the organization of chapters is a bit odd, lending to the frequent repetition of some information. I also really disliked the afterword which asserted that women like pirates because pirates are broken people and women love to fix broken men… maybe this was acceptable in the 90s but now it just comes across as out of touch.

This book gained an extra star because of the excellent sources and appendices in the back. A much more reliable source than Sherry, in my opinion, and focused mostly on removing the myth of piracy and emphasizing the brutality of the day.

Wasn't horrible, but fairly dry and probably over hyped.
