It's been a really long time since I read the Finishing School series, so it was a little hard to remember all of the characters and the history. However, I had so much fun experiencing these older versions of beloved characters! I knew them as young, crazy teens and now they're middle aged which was a trip but also really cool. This novella is exactly the type of story that I love to read from Gail Carriger: entertaining, funny, emotional and sweet. Everything I loved from the Parasol Protectorate is mixed up in this story. I love Dimity and Crispin! They had great chemistry and really cute banter and I love how their love unfolded. It was just a great time reading all around!

Just as Delightfully Deadly reading for a 3rd time.

It sparkled! New characters and old friends. Dimity was her charming self. Ending and Epilogue gave me all the feels.

On 2nd reading -  A sign of Brilliant Writing - you turn right around, reread, and love it even though you just read and know what happens.

Also "As Justice would have it, we should all be so lucky as to go wafting about dramatically in a trailing nightgown on occasion."

Dimity must disweid the group of vampires from their growing gothic depression and dramatics, solve a mystery, and orchestrate a compleat interior design makeover, all while stuck being chaperoned (read: protected/handled) buy the most infuriating and confusing man she has ever met.

Also, there is an amazing meladromatic, vampire Trans-girl. She has a big gruff, ginger lover who thinks she is fantastic, and she is so happy when she gets to buy pretty dresses and waft dramatically around in flowy clothing.

A delightfully romantic and cosy vampire hive makeover. Can't go wrong with that!

Defy and Defend, starring Dimity, is decidedly delightful.

Reading a Gail Carriger book is the equivalent of having a rough day - and so, you take a break by sitting down to nibble on a sweet scone slathered in lemon curd, whilst sipping a cuppa.
