Weirdly plodding prose for such a dynamic subject matter.

Finger Bone could be described as “war is hell, the succinct Japanese edition”. It’s set in Papua New Guinea in 1942, mostly in a field hospital where the unnamed narrator is recovering from a injury. A quick but worthwhile read, offering a perspective on WWII less seen in the West.

A world war 2 story told from Japanese soldiers pov which is heartbreaking and makes you think about the point of war.
