3.5 stars read for me, finished in one seating. it's an eye-opening book on the challenge life of immigrant workers with one of the conflicts involved the real-life incident of an immigrant falsely accused of murder. a very interesting read indeed as a reminder that the immigrants are human too living to put food on the table in a foreign country.

excellent. great insight to the lives of modern day domestic workers, Singapore, Phillipines
challenging emotional tense fast-paced

Did not finish.

might be the victim of a little mismarketing because i wouldn't characterise this as a thriller or even really a mystery (it has mystery but it's not a detective novel) - it feels like contemporary fiction, maybe 'women's fiction'. good read
adventurous inspiring reflective medium-paced

Honestly much sadder than I expected from the description. The blurb compared it to Crazy Rich Asians, which is....not at all accurate. Basically the only thing they have in common is that the story takes place in Singapore. It was slightly slow going at first, and could have used a bit more editing and focusing. But it was an interesting look into domestic worker's lives in Singapore, who are mostly Filipino, and how little protection they have in the country. Would recommend.
