I chose to read this book after a recomandation from my anthropology department, as it supposed to explain the way thais live. However this book tells nothing about life in thailand. It tells the story of Richard, a young brit who finds a map for a beach, the only remaining eden in the world, an unspoiled natural tropical set. After getting there he finds out that there is a team of people living on the beach, an alternative society that wants to keep the beach as it is, away from the tourist and the materialism. The book has nice pase, very quick, and keeps the interest high throughout the whole plot. Unfortunately, I found the last couple of chapters not as good as the rest of the book. But all in all it is a great reading for the beach.
