Another beautiful tale by Kipling set in India. A brave, young mongoose whose not afraid of anything just very curious, finds himself adored by a human family and at war with a family of cobras.

Unfortunately this version on Amazon Kindle for free is only a portion of the story. Kipling is rather controversial these days so keep that in mind when reading to the kids. It's amazing that Amazon requires this many words is a review for such little product.

I'd never read any Kipling before. This was an enjoyable 'toe in the water' - and I look forward to reading more. This would be a fun one to read aloud to kids - lots of opportunities for different voices.

One of the most memorable stories of THE JUNGLE BOOK, this is a surprisingly energetic, classic, children’s story.
Childhood classic turned family favorite
Reading this as a child, I loved it. I wanted my own mongoose. Reading it as a parent, it is such a wonderful story.

I had heard of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi before, but had no idea that it was a short story, or that it was part of The Jungle Book. I learned this today. My copy of an illustrated children's book version, adapted and illustrated by Jerry Pinkney, arrived today. That was not what I was looking for. I wanted Rudyard Kipling's words. I searched for, and found, a free kindle version on Amazon and read that. It was a quick read and I enjoyed the story.
I read this to fulfill the "Read a book with non-human characters" item on my checklist for the year. I read plenty of "alien" type books, and I thought an animal book would be a nice change of pace.
