the majority of the book felt pretty tedious but the reveal made the whole thing worth it

kudos to Hugh Fraser for being able to capture the switch in tone of voice once you realized that Sheppard is guilty… we LOVE an unreliable narrator

Book seven of my personal read through of Agatha Christie in publication order!

This is not one of my personal favorites, but it is a very clever one. I remember the complete shock I had at the reveal when I read this one in my teens! I spent most of this read through trying to figure out if I actually remembered the ending or if I was thinking of a different story, which was entertaining in its own way, but also somewhat distracted me from enjoying the story as it unfolded.

This book was wonderful, full of complexities that it is genuinely impossible to predict. That, for me, is both the genius and downfall of this book. I loved reading it, I found it thrilling and was always trying to guess the murderer. However, with the limited knowledge given, I found it quite frustrating on my first reading to see the murderer was Dr Shepard. While clever and bright and good fun to read, it would’ve been more satisfying had just a little more been given away, giving me the chance to guess

Definitely better than the other Poirot I've read. And the ending made me want to read it again sometime, to see all the pieces coming together!
