From Rorschach’s journal: “They had a choice, all of them. They could have followed the footsteps of good men... instead they followed the droppings of leechers and communists and didn’t realise that the trail led over a precipice until it was too late. Don’t tell me they didn’t have a choice.”
Great start.

This was not the book for me. The only reason I did not DNF was because we were reading for Book Club and I wanted to be able to discuss it. It is very political with a lot of symbolisms, but dated in the 70s. I struggled through most of it.
Graphic: Sexism, Sexual content, Violence, Murder
Minor: Rape, Sexual assault
Starting this one after it was recommended bya friend.
I loooved the artwork and and I stopped few times whike reading to admire the ART!
AND THE STORY. I have watched the movie but Still it's so intriguing.

What if superheroes were real 80s style.
Very good story and substories and details.

I finally crawled out of the rock I've been living in to read Watchmen.
You see, I'm not an Alan Moore fan. I've only ever read TLoEG (aside from bits from From Hell). I love what I've read of his work. But I think he's a bit of a prima donna. Movies were made based on his work. People loved it. People who loved his work before the movies became over-protective. I decided to let things lie before giving Watchmen a try.
It was amazing. It took me most of Saturday night (I read pretty fast, but this is something that you relish) and I finally put it down and thought about what a person can do with a genre and just turn everything around. I mean, I still don't really like Alan Moore personally, but damn his work is amazing.

A very cynical look at superheroes and what it means to be a superhero. Rorschach is the lynchpin of the story, a pretty repellent man who insists on answers to his questions and hunts for answers in a world where superheroes exist and where this brings out subtle changes.
Yes, it's a bit dated with the mentions of cold war and Russian threats but overall it does ask the important question of who sets people up with power and who watches the watchers. Perhaps an incredibly important question in this day of increased surveliance.
It's not quite me, though, it just isn't really my kind of book.

"Wait is Rorschach a good guy or a bad guy?" I say on page 2. "Yes. That's it. You don't need to keep reading. That's all, that's the whole book" says my husband. He's kind of right.
Ok, this was a bit of a pain to get through. I had a hard time keeping track of all the depressed old white men and I think that probably tells you a lot. All the women are either super sexualized girls that need to be protected or lesbians that die tragic deaths. No, wait, there's one black woman that's probably the most sane character in this whole mess but she also doesn't care about one lesbian beating another up on the street right in front of her so I don't know how much I like her.
I guess I can appreciate the historic value of this but I think it's aged really poorly. Call me a sensitive millennial but I think it would be fine to let this one get forgotten.
