would've loved this if a) there weren't multiple instances of SA/harassment and b) if abnegation made even a lick of sense. none at all.

Literally could not put this book down.

As someone who watched the films first and loved them, I can confidently say the books are SO much better. I loved all the little details and plot points that the film missed and just the description of Tris’ emotions that couldn’t be translated to film.

One piece of advice I would give if you are reading this after watching the films is that the characters of Tris and especially Four are (in my opinion) very different to the books compared to the films. I would recommend starting the books with this in mind and you will enjoy it and relate to the characters better.

Even if you haven’t watched the films, oh my goodness I would recommend this book to anyone. Cant wait to read the next one.

Loved this book as a younger adult when it first came out and thought I'd revisit.
I still enjoy the main plot of the factions, Divergence, mystery of rumours of overthrowing the government, and Four/Tris' relationship.
The writing is ok with a fairly fast pace, but can be repetitive, especially around Tris' thoughts and feelings.
It's a great third part, fast paced, exciting and emotional.
The main thing that annoys me is despite Tris
finding out that she is Divergent and being EXPLICITLY told to stay in the middle of the group, rather than drawing attention to herself by being at the top of the rankings, she does nothing to pretend that she is not aware that she is in a simulation in the second round of initiation. So she does come top of the rankings, again with the results of the third round, and this appears to have no impact. She doesn't acknowledge the danger she's in and it is hardly mentioned by anyone else later.

Overall a decent dystopian, YA novel and leaves you intrigued for the next in the series.

I wanted to read this book because it's been on my TBR since it released when I was in my early 20s (2010+). This book definitely could have been 150 pages shorter and I wouldn't be been so frustrated with the pacing and how long it was. The story honestly could have been 150 pages shorter and would have been just about the same (This book is 487 pgs.)

I'm not sure if my younger self would have appreciated this book more than my older self. I'm in my early 30s and I still enjoy reading young adult novels, this novel just didn't have enough action or excitement for me.

I wanted to see what the hype was and why this particular series was made into a movie franchise. This really wasn't as exciting or good as I expected it to be and therefore I feel let down and I don't have the desire to finish the series so I don't think I'll find out what happens in the story and I'm not that let down by not finding out all the secrets to this series.

I'm giving this 3 stars out of 5

i never actually read the divergent books when they were "popular" so to say, however after seeing the trailer for the new  hunger games all i've craved is some sort of dystopian fiction that reminds me of when i was younger and this perfectly fulfilled that craving. not only did it do so but it also got me out of my reading slump.

as for the book it's self, i liked it more than i thought i would. there's so many parts where i couldn't put it down and i really like seeing the inner turmoil in characters during choosing day and the aptitude test and then following along to see the consequences of their choices. some of the things that were revealed were so unexpected which was crazy. i also enjoyed that the love story isn't a focal point but at some parts it was to the point where i almost forgot it was even a thing. but overall these are very minor flaws that did not change my mind. 5/5 from me
