I wanted to read this book because it's been on my TBR since it released when I was in my early 20s (2010+). This book definitely could have been 150 pages shorter and I wouldn't be been so frustrated with the pacing and how long it was. The story honestly could have been 150 pages shorter and would have been just about the same (This book is 487 pgs.)

I'm not sure if my younger self would have appreciated this book more than my older self. I'm in my early 30s and I still enjoy reading young adult novels, this novel just didn't have enough action or excitement for me.

I wanted to see what the hype was and why this particular series was made into a movie franchise. This really wasn't as exciting or good as I expected it to be and therefore I feel let down and I don't have the desire to finish the series so I don't think I'll find out what happens in the story and I'm not that let down by not finding out all the secrets to this series.

I'm giving this 3 stars out of 5

I read divergent in grade 8 for English class but I was scared of most things at the time so I had a difficulty enjoying and remembering what happened so I decided to reread it again now years later, and four and tris relationship awwww I love them, can’t wait to continue the series

i never actually read the divergent books when they were "popular" so to say, however after seeing the trailer for the new  hunger games all i've craved is some sort of dystopian fiction that reminds me of when i was younger and this perfectly fulfilled that craving. not only did it do so but it also got me out of my reading slump.

as for the book it's self, i liked it more than i thought i would. there's so many parts where i couldn't put it down and i really like seeing the inner turmoil in characters during choosing day and the aptitude test and then following along to see the consequences of their choices. some of the things that were revealed were so unexpected which was crazy. i also enjoyed that the love story isn't a focal point but at some parts it was to the point where i almost forgot it was even a thing. but overall these are very minor flaws that did not change my mind. 5/5 from me

Stellar. I haven't read it since high school, but I think I loved it even more this time around.

Not the best book I've ever read, but better than some. This is a decent book to read if you like "romantic" dystopian novels with cliques. There were reviews about this book saying that the romance was so strong, and that the characters were so amazing, but I do not agree very much with those statements. Though, I do like the fact that each faction is a different part of speech. I do, however, like how the faction names(Dauntless, Amity, Erudite, Abnegation, and Candor) can easily roll off the tongue and sound nice.

I honestly don't like how Tris basically hated Marcus just from being in Tobias' fear landscape, seeing as she hasn't gotten to understand or know Marcus yet.

‘divergent’ is a fast paced book with action throughout. it is told through the pov of beatrice, more commonly known as tris. the character building and interactions with others is incredibly well written, you can clearly tell what they’re like as individuals and how they’re feeling. i mean come on four isn’t that cold and tough on the inside.

there is strong character development in this book which is very important to the story line. i wasn’t sure what to expect of this book at first as i just picked it off the shelf and decided to buy it as i was in a reading slump and just wanted something to set me off on my book marathon again and this certainly surprised me.

i purchased the second book ‘insurgent’ before i was even half way into the first book, so i think that speaks for itself.
