Saddest Stephen King book I've heard in a while. Just not my kind of book.

I didn't think I'd end up as invested in this story as I was. I'd never heard much about this one, King's Bachman books don't always get the most attention. He even writes a foreword in this about him not being confident in this story. But you guys, it's sooooo good. The feel is a bit different, I wouldn't call this a horror story, it's a quick read and for the most part follows only one character on a terrible misadventure. It's dark, it's sad and its actually full of feeling. I think if you haven't picked this one up, if you've passed over it out of just not being sure if its worth the read. I tell you it is.

This book was okay. I loved the intro King included in the version I read which basically said this was Bachman's work and not his. That is definitely true. I wanted to read a book of his written under the Bachman pen name, but much prefer King's own work

The introduction to the book is lots of fun. The story is good, I found the ending to be a little abrupt and slightly unsatisfying. Overall not a bad book, though.

In the forward to this book, Stephen King is a bit overly self-deprecating about what to expect from this book but this novel is nothing less than what I expect of his writing. I won’t go so far as to say this is his best writing but it definitely falls under what I would consider an unexpectedly “hidden gem” of King’s/Bachman’s body of work. I highly recommended this title if you are a fan of King’s writing, especially his earlier stuff.
