Very vanilla, but nice.
I wanted to like this one. And parts of it I really did like. I don't think I've read a book set in Africa before, so the change of scenery and different POVs were totally welcome. But I think there was just far too little relationship development.
We got to know the hero and heroine separately. They interacted a dozen times in what, to me, was pretty uneventful/mundane things. And then the hero thinks to himself: I'm in love with her! I was flatly unconvinced.
Also I think what makes it more complicated for me is that I'm a mom to an almost 18 mo old. The hero has a newborn/very young son, and is not with the baby's mother, but they live together and moved to this small town together. I would be furious if my co-parent brought the person who they were now dating around my baby without telling me. Because it's DIFFERENT, when they "meet" or interact in that capacity. Also he never even told his co-parent that he was interested in dating, or going to be dating, or actively dating. I couldn't help but completely side with her. And it soured me on the book for sure.

Just like in And They Lived Happily Ever After Therese Beharrie did a wonderful job of creating a world around characters we would fall in love with
This story follows Delilah who is trying to atone for the sins of her mother and Rowan a single dad who is attempting to punish himself for what he feels was a mistake.
Single Dads club is a slow burn contemporary romance that not only deals with feeling and tolerating emotions but learning that putting the past behind us is the only way we can move forward. There is an accidental pregnancy but that is at the very beginning and this book focuses more on after the pregnancy.

I got most of the way through this and then skipped to the end. It took me 8 days just to do that, which is a long time.
I was not attached to either character and their "woe is me, my parents sucked" attitudes.
There was so much "I want this but don't deserve it/or shouldn't do it" over and over again, it became monotonous.
There was no real depth to me, while the parental trauma was "deep" the relationships and people weren't.
It was just okay.

I really did enjoy the connection that Rowan felt with Delilah throughout this book. They meet in a coffee shop when he is going in for his morning pick me up. He brings Declan in and grabs coffee for himself and his baby's mother. Delilah can't help but feel a connection to him, even if she shouldn't. After she rescues him, they can't stop thinking about one another.
It seems as though they are destined because they just keep getting thrown together in life and even if Rowan knows his life is way too much of a mess for this, he can't help but feel a pull. As they start spending time together, will Rowan be able to get past his fears and become the man Delilah needs or will he let his fears control him?
This was a really slow burn and it had the addition of the single dad's club, which was so fun. I loved these guys and I really can't wait to read more about them.
I enjoyed this book, but the end felt very awkward to me in the grand gesture. I couldn't really understand the MMC's trauma as well as I wanted to either and I felt like there would be more drama and I usually don't look for that but it just led up to something that never came to frution, in my opinion. I will read more of this series though, because I loved so many of the side characters. 3.5 stars
Thanks to Montlake, Therese Beharrie and Netgalley for an early copy.

Overall this book was decent. However, i didn’t enjoy the pacing of the book. The ending felt rushed and incomplete.
