I’ve been duped!
I guess I could have read the blurb a little better, but I didn’t, and I’ve been duped! This wasn’t a sci-fi/alternate-dimension-traveling/universe-expanding book. It was a romance! It was a romance book thinly veiled as science fiction. It felt more like time travel, too, and less like alternate universes since the biggest part was set in czar-ruled Russia. And don’t get me started on the Russia section (And also, the Russia section has a bad part).
I also didn’t realize it would be a series. Clearly I should have done my homework better before reading—listening—to this book (but should we have to do our homework to enjoy a book? I think not).
You know, now that I know the book isn’t as much sci-fi as a romance book, the title makes a lot more sense. It didn’t confuse me for a while there. “A Thousand Pieces of You” sounds a lot more like a time-traveling (even though it was clarified several times that they did *not* time travel. They dimension hopped) fated love story than a action-filled sci-fi.
Also, one thing about the audio... I didn’t love the Russian accents?
All that being said, I did finish it all. So ... 2.75 stars I’d say.

Omg finally a book about alternative realities! It's such an underused concept even tho it's very interesting. They don't visit that many realities in this book but they have great variety. One is very advanced technologically, other isn't, one is very close to the main character's own reality and the last is something she couldn't even dream of. The plot is very interesting (this is kinda spoilery so here's you warning) but it very quickly turns into something completely different than what's in the blurb
I do have some problems with this book. First of all, like half the book is spend in the second dimension they visit. Sure we got some character development and romance but I was hoping to move on more quickly from there and explore more alternative dimensions. Second, WHY ARE THEY SO CARELESS WITH THEIR ALTERNATIVE DIMENSION VERSIONS OF THEMSELVES??? This pisses me off! especially in the Russian dimension. Our Marguerite literally might've gotten A ROYAL pregnant with her bodyguard??? And she only thinks about this ONCE. she felt so bad for Lieutenant Markov but didn't give a shit about that dimensions Marguerite?? Wooooow.
There's also the freaking love triangle because of course there is. However it didn't bother me that much. It's quite obvious who she ends up with from the beginning.
Despite these flaws I loved this book! I'm definitely going to read the sequels.
