Having a clear out, wasn't actively enjoying it so it's got to go.

I don't read a lot of fiction books so this book was quite a change of pace, considering the fact that I only bought it because it was written using 1960s Woman's magazines. Reading a book without knowing the story line was quite refreshing but the reading became quite tedious at some points and I had to stop for a few weeks at a time and start reading it again as I wasn't enjoying myself while reading it at some points.

The book was written in a creative way, the text being entirely cut out from 1960's magazines. However, the climax came too soon, and I found the story to be a bit lacking.

This was a really interesting book, and I really enjoyed studying it for a Queer Fiction module on my course. The format was possibly the most interesting thing about it for me - the 'graphic novel' aspect really added another layer of meaning to the text - but I was also fairly gripped by the plot as I never really knew what was going to happen and always looked forward to reading more. The queer themes of cross-dressing and gender performativity were explored in a really interesting way, although if you read the transvestism in the novel as a presentation of mental illness then this is obviously quite problematic. I would definitely recommend this to people who want to read queer fiction or people who like to analyse and deconstruct texts.

I loved the graphic novel style - it took Rawle such a heinously long time to write this in magazine clippings. But, I knew the twist to the story by page 20, and it was a bit of a slog once I guessed the 'secret'. A good book, but I couldn't get into it once I had my suspicions confirmed.
