I enjoyed the tone of this book, though it was very different from the others in the series. The ending seemed kind of forced and not well thought out to me, though. Much like the end of Stephen King's "Under the Dome," I found myself saying "that's it? That was a lot of build up for nothing." But worth while if you've read the other Forever books.

The first half is okay. It sets up some nice bits of story, it promises to to another great jump in time, escape from a stagnant society and look at what the future has in store, and then it just falls flat on it's face.
Read up until the spaceship, then stop. After this book, Haldeman removes the science from science fiction entirely, and the end is just a horrible mess full of plot twists, nonsensical story lines, a build up that doesn't resolve in to anything and our protagonist happily accepting the life that they wanted to flee from before.
Gave it two stars because it looked like it had some potential, but yeah.. Might want to skip this one.

Good sequel!
Not so much a "deus ex machina" ending (he gave hints in the first few pages where he was going) as "one layer too many" (Omni *and* the nameless? couldn't one have served for both?), along with wrapping up too quickly (which is nothing new -- "Forever War," "Mindbridge," etc come to pretty abrupt ends as well).
I'd read more set in this universe. Or maybe I have....
