This book was really enjoyable and I would have given it 4-5 stars but wishing I had read the physical book rather than the audiobook. The narrator was great and I’d love to hear other books he’s done, however I felt he was a total mismatch for this book so I had to keep encouraging myself to continue rather than truly enjoying it.

Overall this book is super hard to get into, I had to put it down a few times overall to get through it and I don't seem to be the only one with a hard time getting through the crunchy start.
Overall the world within the book and the last third of the book really upped its rating for me. I found myself reflecting and drawing comparisons to our own world within the last third of the book that made it overall a pleasant finish to an otherwise semi slow read.

I didn’t think much of the book as I read it, but it was one that I found myself missing and thinking about frequently after I finished. Currently reading the second and I honestly like it a lot more. Fun world and solid, humorous writing. Would recommend overall.

Last month I read 50 Shades of Grey and hated it. Whilst slating it to my friend she told me about this book and lent it to me and I absolutely loved it.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world where your status is defined by what colours you can see we meet our hero Edward (Eddie) Russet, a Red, who had been sent to East Carmine in the outer fringes where his father is set to become the local swatchman, a type of doctor who cures people's ailments by showing them the appropriate colour. In this world you live with the confines and expected behaviour of the Chromotacia and your career path and marriage choices are all based on your status and best hope to improve your genetic lines stays. On their way to East Carmine they encounter Jane, a local grey who threatens Eddie's life and has none of the usual levels of compliance one would normally expect from a grey, the lowest in the Chromatacia who cannot perceive colour at all. As Eddie sets out on his given work of holding a chair census he meets many new friends of different colour hierachies and realises everything he has believed before is not as it seems and with Jane's help there may be a way to break down the hierachy and allow everyone to live as equal.
This book is described as George Orwell meets Douglas Adams and I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment. Whilst the "faction" of system isn't anything new this had such a creative approach to it and I enjoyed it every step of the way. This was very funny and quite a British humour I felt. Whilst clearly this was written to be part of a series sequential books have to date not been published. If they ever are however, I will be the first to purchase them.

Wow. Unique and interesting dystopian story. Creepy and strange by turns, amusing and intriguing by others. I was sucked in. I can't wait for the next book!

Phenom. A little high brow, but thoroughly and wittily entertaining. And I like spoons even more now.
