I just really enjoyed everything about this book! The characters were so real and relatable. I loved the family dynamics and the restaurant. It was funny and heartfelt and sad and charming.

This is the kind of slice of life book I am really enjoying recently. The Sullivans own a restaurant in a progressive neighborhood in Chicago. The family patriarch dies right before the Cubs win the World Series in 2016, and before That Man was elected president. The story deals mostly with the three adult grandchildren, two sisters, Gretchen and Jane, and their cousin Teddy. Gretchen returns to her hometown after her New York City band breaks up, Jane is navigating an increasingly rocky marriage and coping with living in an incompatible suburb, and Teddy has returned to working at the family restaurant and is working on his love life. This is a funny, thoughtful book that I really enjoyed. It makes me want to go back and read this author's earlier books. In fact, I think I will.
Family dramas are sometimes blah. This was a very well written and character focused story. The author focused on the three cousins and tied the rest of the family in. Really enjoyed the story.
