Good at first then dragged. Some very odd and random chapters. Needs editing. I really enjoyed a lot of parts of this book.

This is a charming novel about multiple generations of the Sullivan family in Oak Park, a neighborhood just west of downtown Chicago, who own the titular restaurant Sullivan's. Marrying the Ketchups had the solid storyelling and winsome characters I've been craving! The books follows the Sullivan family during the Cubs 2016 World Series win and in the wake of the 2016 election into 2017. I was drawn into the story and found this to be a quick read; the Sullivan family members are flawed, likable characters who demonstrate that "adulting" can look quite different — especially for siblings Jane and Gretchen and their cousin Teddy. As a Chicago native, I adored ALL the Chicago references too; Jennifer Close makes the book's setting entirely clear and references specific spots in the city and surrounding suburbs.

Read this so quickly and I really loved it. It was on its way to 5 stars because the characters are so real and it actually made me laugh out loud multiple times, but I found the ending just a little flat for me personally so 4 stars!

This was a perfect palate cleanser for me. I loved the generational story of the Sullivans and the one constant being the restaurant. Interesting that Rose doesn’t eat, but her life revolves around feeding others. I appreciate the emphasis on women and society’s perceptions of situations in addition to how the characters felt like the work was ending with the Cubs finally winning and Trump being elected. Boy, how the world changed. I am validated that I am not the only one who noticed.

Lady lit. Solid enough! Some funny moments. I found most of the characters very empathetic but wished for a bit more from Teddy.
