I noticed that this was by Samantha Downing and decided to give it a listen on a whim and I was pleasantly surprised. Novellas/short stories are usually a miss for me because I always feel like they're too short to connect with the characters and the story. That was not the case here. This was just as solid of a mystery as much as a 300 page one would be. Definitely reccommend!

This story is about a dog walker who finds one of the dogs owners dead on the floor when she comes to drop the dog off after their walk. It starts with her POV of what happened and then switches to the detective interviewing her, and through the detectives POV, we find out what really happened.

Just finished this short audiobook - I didn't realize my Audible subscription from reading Slayers was still active, so I figured I'd listen to some of the shorts I'd wanted to when they came out. (I still don't like Audible exclusives, but I wanted to support Samantha, so I guess it works out.) I loved this. I was so sad when it was over. It's worth the free trial if you want to jump on, especially if you are already a fan.

Well, I’ll be more attentive to my dogs from now on.

Fast paced. Good misdirection. Not the biggest fan of wrapping it up in a bow at the end, but it worked.

I thought about giving this 1 star but it truly deserves 0. We picked it as an audio book for a quick drive to visit family. All 4 of us in the car collectively agree it was absolute crap. The writing wasn’t good, the ending / meaning of the book was worse than i could’ve even dreamt up. The only thing i can recommend here is reading a spoiler and then only thinking about it ever again to joke with your friends. Biggest takeaway here is that it’s something we can all joke about now. Truly WTF?!

This was decent. Not one of my top favorites. I found myself more interested at the end.
