i’m shocked by how much i loved this considering how little i cared about dante before now. i still don’t feel any type of way abt him but i love simone (despite her flaws) and most of the new supporting characters they’re very endearing.

i wasn’t super interested in the romance plot because
their relationship in the present didn’t click for me
and dante’s very far from my type but even if i was
that master/slave line when they hooked up again after all those years made me feel nauseous i took a star off for that alone.
i’m sure it was something the author didn’t think much about but i really didn’t vibe with it considering she’s the only explicitly black FMC in the series idk i just really wish it wasn’t there because i loved the rest of it.

if this book is any indication there is definitely an increase in quality between the first and second half of the series - it doesn’t feel overly verbose but it doesn’t feel mundane or lacking in detail either it’s the perfect middle for me with this genre. the actual romance plot
(aside from the fact the first third was essentially a flashback i loved that)
wasn’t clicking for me personally but i liked the rest of the plot well enough

At first i had so much anxiety about this book mainly because when i read the blurb of the book it gave me so much anxiety so when i went into the book knowing that it was a second chance romance and the end of the blurb said this  “fate grants her one more chance to reconnect with the man she can’t forget but Simone has a secret… a mistake she fears Dante will never forgive…” i was nervous another part of the blurb “Until the disastrous night that splits them apart.” So you do find out about the secret before that disastrous night that splits them apart and i am here to say i thought it was something completely different then what the secert actually was i was not 😉expecting😉 it whatsoever but once that little
😉bump😉 over the rode happened and they met each other again i was better and my anxiety was barely there i did love the ending of that last chapter maybe even last two but that last  was my favorite part of the book i still can say I'm not s fan of second chance romances i do think this was my first second chance romance and i do now have confirmation that I don’t like it i enjoyed seeing the other couples from the previous books in this one i also loved meeting the next male main character in the next one aka Raylan and Riona I'm excited to see how he’s gonna get Riona Griffin in love and i also enjoyed seeing that surprise but also not surprise of Callum and Aida😉 read it i do think Stolen heir is still my favorite  in the whole series I'm enjoying all the rest of them but I enjoyed stolen heir a little different there was allot of mysteries but more unexpected surprises in this book but overall i gave this book 5 stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I never would have thunked a second chance-trope could give me my first 5⭐️ read of 2023, but here we are!

Dante is my all time favourite Gallo-brother (Aida is my favourite Gallo💅). Simone and Dante is perfect for each other 🥺

Simone's drama was written perfectly and I could feel the angst while I read.
This is also the most spicy book in this series 😏😏

Such a disappointment that it made me DNF the series. It wasn’t terrible as much as it exposed the weaknesses in the author’s style. Going into it, I knew that Lark enjoys fanciful stories meant to keep you reading rather than praising the craft, but even still, this felt particularly weak. The characters were stunted and immature, which was especially noticeable when you realized the serious situations they flippantly addressed. They felt exactly the same as they had been at 16, which is particularly disappointing because Dante has been more mature in other books. So many plots went unresolved, and the plots that were resolved were hastily done. As someone who loved Dante, I was so disappointed that THIS was the story he got.

Another solid addition to the Brutal Birthright series! I enjoyed Dante and Simone’s story overall. The first portion of the book was a little slow as it set the stage but I understood why we needed to as that’s how we see their emotional connection being formed rather than later on. For a second chance romance there wasn’t much conflict to overcome
Dante quickly got over Simone hiding their son from him
. I would recommend this book!

Quite literally the Persuasion of mafia romances.
