  • This is the story of how Shakespeare and Company, the most famous English language bookstore in Paris, was founded and the women behind it. A light read that's good for summer.

I found the book to be slow and struggled through all of it. But when I googled the life of Sylvia Beach and Adrienne Minnie’s - I enjoyed reading about them.

The Paris Bookseller by Kerri Maher

This was a beautiful story! Just appreciating all of the research and dedication that the author put into this book this alone makes this book worth reading! Kerri Maher did exactly what evey good historical fiction book should transport us back in time and bring an old story back to life! The time and detail she put into building her characters was done so well I felt like I knew them! This book is one that all book lovers will cherish! Truly an amazing experience reading this book! I hope to read more by this author in the near future! Happy reading everyone!

Overall enjoyed this book, but I had a hard time with how the narrator did male voices.

A beautiful and moving fictionalised story Sylvia Beach who changed the literary world by publishing James Joyce's controversial novel Ulysses when no one else would. In 1919 she opened the only English book shop in Paris and with the help of her lover Adrienne and the writers who became close friends, she took on the male dominated world of publishing and proved that with passion in your soul anything is possible.

When I bought this book a few years ago little did I know what a gem of a book I had sitting on my shelf. The author does take some liberties but in the author's notes at the end of the book she explains what is fact and what is the work of her imagination.

Highly recommended

oh, to buy the book about Shakespeare & Co FROM Shakespeare & Co. oh, to be reading a book about Paris while actually IN Paris. peak reading experience of my life :’)

loved the beautiful story of this novel! not usually a time period i typically go for in my historical fiction but i actually really enjoyed it. it was a nice change of pace for me! also, the back cover made very little mention of the WLW romance that makes up a fair portion of the plot of the book? but i was absolutely pleasantly surprised by that!! i loved the various kinds of love and relationships shown through this novel.

the characters were awesome, and who doesn’t love reading about a bookstore??
