I like that the author did a lot of research and was very detailed. I also liked that everything eventually worked out well for the parties involved or at least we had an illusion of that. It’s not a bad read but it’s not my favorite book either. All in all, I think anyone who loves a good fantasy book would enjoy reading this.

This was an enjoyable read. I love how Yoruba mythology was presented here. I also loved how queer friendly the book is.
I do wish I got to see Olorun take down Sango

Disappointed by this read as I was really excited to get stuck into it. Could have DNF, but powered through and skimmed it.
I don’t think this was a book about Shigidi. If anything, it told the story of Nneoma. The characters could’ve been fleshed out more and I was excited for the heist, but it wasn’t actually the main focus of the plot.
I thought the heist would delve more into the reality of stolen African artefacts, but it didn’t. The writing style, hopping across a timeline was also laborious and wasn’t for me.
There’s some elements I enjoyed though.

This novel had me very strongly hooked in the first half, fun plot, a mythos I wasn’t familiar represented by the Nigerian pantheon, and interesting characters.
And then the wheels completely fall off in the second half. Riddled with editing errors and marred by what ultimately amounts to a milquetoast and banal Marvel plot.
