Team King-Should-Take-More-Opioids, checking in!
I'm giving this a lot of leeway because it’s completely bonkers. Some of it works, a lot of it doesn’t, but it’s SUCH a huge swing I can’t help but respect it for how bananas it is.

It had so much potential, but it lost me towards the end. I felt like there was too much going on and too much bouncing around.
“There was no one to blame when the dust cleared. And even if there was, what good did it do?”
Reading some of the reviews it seems like the thing people didn’t like was that this is an alien invasion book. Ohhhkaaay. Not at all sure why that’s a problem?
For me, this book was great! King is the absolute best at character stories and Dreamcatcher completely delivers that. It’s chock full of all kinds of terrific characters, good, bad, and just ordinary. I love that even a waitress with only a brief appearance still comes across as a fully formed person and not just a scene placeholder. That’s what ultimately makes King’s stories really come alive.
King wrote this particular book during a time when he was in a lot of physical pain, and that subject is dealt with so well. The emotional aspect of chronic pain, the ongoing feeling that your body is not fully on your side, the tiresomeness of the whole thing all came across acutely and with sharp realism.
There are many little things, small scenes, wonderfully emotional moments that make up the story, creating such a rich tapestry of friendship which makes all the truly horrific things that happens to these boys/men in Dreamcatcher much more difficult to bear.

Really liked this one, I (almost?) always like SK so no surprise there. However, some 20 years ago, after having read quite a few Stephen Kings, I started to have enough of the extreme supernatural (like supernatural beings/dark forces taking over human bodies), I’m feeling that again (or maybe the feeling never completely left me?). And now I’m probably feeling that even more after having read Holly. I mean the existence of aliens I have no problem with but stuff like Mr Gray and their running around in the Dreamcatcher just don’t engage me anymore. The part that was first explained as Jonesy’s imagination where later it wasn’t, I found very confusing.
I think it’s truly thanks to King’s writing and awesome way of storytelling that I enjoyed this so much. And of course the characters/ friends were great!

It started as a great reading but then the plot got a little bit twisted and the main point wasn't clear anymore. It has a lot of references to previous books so I'd recommend not to start with this particular story if it's your first time reading SK. Good characters and the depiction of friendship was great too.
