This book sucked. It's not only disgusting but one of the worst books I've ever picked up.

This book was weird with the virus and animals and stuff. But good book.

From what I can tell this was a very divisive book of King's. Either you love it or hate it. Funnily enough I was lukewarm on it. This book was written after King was hit by a car and very badly wounded. You can tell that from a lot of the themes and some of the characters in this book that this is him processing it.

Overall the alien mystery was interesting if a little long. I enjoyed the 4 childhood friend characters but the military group that comes in in act 2 was less enjoyable to read (I understand that is partly the point but it still didn't make for a good time). The second act dragged a bit but I couldn't tell you where. It was more of a feeling that it took me a long time to read for little to happen.

I think King found the term "shit weasel" a little too enjoyable with the amount that he said it. Like it was funny the first time but after about 2 dozen the charm wears off. Not a bad book or my least favorite of his (I think that is still Revival which was just too long for the pay off) but also not one that I would recommend to a first time King reader.

My rating system
1 - Did not enjoy
2 - Not irredeemable but has too many flaws to say I enjoyed
3 - Enjoyed it
4 - Great book but didn't love it
5 - Amazing book
