Really expected more from SK. It's an okay read if you have nothing else to do to pass your time, but I found myself not enjoying the flashbacks and the portrayal of the characters' past selves. As with anything belonging to the horror genre, it sometimes relies on stupid people doing stupid things, and frankly, I am sick of that.
I did like the beginnig of the book the most, but the further I read, the more I didn't like it. Again, I had high expectations for a SK novel, but it ultimately failed me.

It's interesting how this book is considered something of a stinker in the same vein that Tommyknockers was. Is it the case, then, that uncle Stevie just can't do aliens that well?
I'd argue that some of his short stories with alien life is fantastic (I Am The Doorway, The Jaunt, etc).
But yes, Dreamcatchers 'fails' in the way that Tommyknockers did.
Interesting characters and ideas, but mired by a a slow chase to the end, as well as an overreliance on tropes like 'the special child' (though we all know it's because he has the shine), and gross-out potty horror.
Middle-of-the-road SK book for me.

Reads like a classic Stephen King novel. Full of suspense, gore and action. Enjoyed the read but maybe a bit long for what it is. Not up there with my favourite SK books.

Shit weasels and aliens, the characters are the same guys found in every other Stephen King book about a gang of guys except one of them is special. I found myself rollin' my eyes, struggling to get through the whole book thinking, "Wow, it's really not getting any better." None of the things that happen seem to matter to any of the other things happening, with a sufficiently King ending, "Guess, I better wrap this book up. That's all, folks!"
I am King's biggest fan, I think. And I did not finish this book. I did not make it halfway. Maybe I'll try again some day, but I just didn't like this one.

Not my favorite of the King books I've read or reread. I have some issues suspending belief which doesn't work when reading horror.
The back story detailing the way the boys came together was great right up there with Stand By Me and It. King can write and do it well, it's just that sometimes his imagination and mine don't jibe and that's ok.

Mr. Grey wasn't real, he was just a figment of Jonesy's imagination and it was Jonesy giving into baser instincts the entire time? That doesn't work for me, I don't want the evil that men do in my horror/sci-fi mashups.
