Meh.. ik kende alleen goede verhalen van King. Maar deze kreeg ik net moeite gelezen. Sterk pakkend begin. Daarna werd het steeds slechter.

I still read through to the end, and there is some value to the book, but overall it's pretty terrible.

After what feels like forever, I am finally done reading this novel. So far this has been my lease favorite Stephen King novel. I personally found it to drag at way too many parts and I had to speed read through most of it if I wanted to finish it. It's unfortunate it is such a long novel because I only started to get into it at the end..
There are two reasons why I refused to simply put the book away. One is that I am very stubborn and absolutely want/need to read everything Stephen King has done - and two, although the story was not my favorite, King did a good job making me want to keep reading to find out more about Duddits.

In realtà 2,5 stelle
La storia non è male, solo che è inutilmente lungo e anche a tratti noioso. Ci ho messo quasi due mesi a finirlo. Il finale ci sta ma per il resto la storia è abbastanza pesante. Non li consiglio assolutamente per iniziare a leggere King

I would like to imagine Stephen King hopped up on painkillers thinking “ya know what would make me feel better? Writing about farts, feces, and fungi.” Lmfao

Honestly might be a 4 but the audiobook was hard to hear even at full volume through my headphones at work, probably the quietest audiobook I’ve encountered so far, so straining to hear kinda hindered my experience.  Not sure why people don’t like this one, even King has since said he doesn’t like this one too much and mentioned it was fueled by OxyContin. So not sure if he doesn’t like it because of the story or just because he was under the influence the whole time. I loved the easter eggs and parallels to other King works. I like what the book says about collective trauma and the bond that it can create that is both empowering as well as cancerous. The bond the five friends share reminds me of the bond the kids in It have, which I’ve always wondered actually means they have a little bit of the Shining, so I wonder if Duddits has the Shining? Is this a connection consciously made by King that interweaves a lot of these stories or is it just coincidence? It’s no secret King has a multiverse going on especially with the Dark Tower series which I have yet to read, but it’s also no secret King loves writing characters with mental powers be it telepathy, telekinesis, pyrokinesis, etc. I see a lot of people complain about the military parts in this book being boring or too full of jargon and I really don’t get that problem, I thought the military scenes were as good as the rest especially with the boss Kurtz going batshit insane and didn’t really notice any military jargon. Also, I guess I don’t know what people were hoping for. The inclusion of the military in this story makes sense to me. There was more jargon in Billy Summers and no one complained there because it’s a good book, and IMO so is this one. I also don’t find this book particularly bloated or self indulgent or slow. So either I’m just so used to King’s writing that I’m desensitized or people are loopy, and I choose to believe the latter.
