Solid book. Nothing amazing, nothing bad. Just a good fun story with some hilarious moments.

I'm not a Star Wars mega fan, but I had a great time with this read. For fans whose love only extends to the original trilogy, I found the story easy to follow. There was no need to buy a hundred other books to connect with this one. It was great to read a book written by an obvious fan, and Hearne's charm and wit are more present than ever. Loved it!

Solid Star Wars book. I liked getting to see Luke's inner monologue. Not ground breaking but it was entertaining. Enjoyable experience for a Star Wars fan

Writing a book in first person from Luke's perspective after A New Hope is very ambitious in my opinion. Like most fans, my expectations were sky high for Heir to the Jedi. I don't think that it was terrible, by any means, it just wasn't that great. I didn't get into until I was over half way. The plot in the beginning was very thin and the setting jumped all over the place. I think, if the goal was to have Luke learn more about the force on his own, that this would have worked better as a short story rather than a full novel. Or, it could have been written in third person and had a stronger plot.

This book seriously suffers from a few things. First off: first person point of view. No one needs to be in Luke Skywalker's head that long. Secondly, as it was published so close to the Disney take over it also lacks a compelling story. Whereas before Disney took over this book might have been a unique but odd take on a generic Star Wars story, afterwards it falls super flat and dull. This book brings nothing new to the Star Wars universe except some boring and badly done tropes.

*Spoilers*
Also the woman that Luke travels with for most of the story is then super shoved into a love interest role and then killed so Luke can have a ~brush with the Dark Side~. Ugh.
