I still think she does better with long stories, but still, they're fun.

I used to read this to some kids that I baby-sat for. Sadly, not knowing the original series, they didn't love it as much as I did ...

An enchanting collection of myths and fairy tales, ranging from silly to dark, with lots of Wrede's trademark humor and feisty heroines turning custom and tradition on its head. Characters from her beloved Enchanted Forest series make an appearance in the final story, followed by a recipe for "Quick After-Battle Triple Chocolate Cake", to be enjoyed warm while counting loot.

I would happily reread this. Simply enchanting, it ensnared, grabbed, held and filled my imagination. It was humorous, poignant, magical and it made me think.

This was a 4 stars for me. I really liked it.

What can I say, I've read this book as much as I've read the others in this series. I think the Unicorn and the Cat is one of my favorites, as it directly connects to the Enchanted forest. I would love, love, love a whole series, or collection of stories of mixed up fairy tales set in the Enchanted forest. Unicorns, griffins, dragons, pools that turn anything into gold, sprites, elves, anything and everything that has been in the original series I would love to see a deserving merchant's daughter, or honorable woodcutter's son go and find their fortune in my beloved story book forest.

This is a great little compilation of fairy tales. Wrede does an amazing job with each story, even finishing with a story from the Enchanted Forest that is a little continuation with the books.
