40% and i‘m again done. Reading alump, when will you pass?! I‘m over you.
The book didn‘t catch my interest. The prologue was good, then it wasn‘t anymore and i was just bored…
Ok, gave it a second try because i started the second trilogy and there was a reference to this trilogy…
Didn‘t feel better about it. It was foreseeable and i knew at book 2 what will happen. When vesper came along it was so cristal clear what will happen… i will not continue this trilogy and i don‘t know if i want to read her second trilogy…

First of all, I have to thank the author and NetGalley for providing me with the ARC. Still, this review is strictly my own thoughts and impressions.
So, I got into this book now knowing what to expect. I am an avid romantasy reader, so the theme seemed right to me. And boy, it did :)
I've recently read a lot of the genre, but this was one of the books that got me hooked from the prologue. I like that it has some darker topics, it's not your YA romantasy. It does have some tropes, yes, but it still tells such a compelling story.
You can tell this isn't the author's first book, rather her first one in the romantasy world.
The one thing I didn't care for, and it is just my personal preference, is
Anyway, WOW :) I'm off to book number 2!

the sort of romantic triangle that was forming. Still, it didn't go too far with the trope and I'm eternally grateful for it :)Anyway, WOW :) I'm off to book number 2!

So I just finished reading this entire series actually. Absolutely incredible. Amazing. The perfect fantasy book when you’re in a slump. This series will bring back that spark that only a good epic high fantasy can give you. I feel rejuvenated and peaceful again.
What an absolutely beautifully written series. Each character was written with such care and thought. So many feelings and each a different but thoroughly thought out background. And our main characters were the cherry on the cake. Both seem so opposite at the start but once you reach the end you’ll be thinking that there’s no better match. Such a beautifully portrayed pair. I just want to cry again thinking about them and this series.
Well done Briar Boleyn for becoming my new favourite high fantasy author

After falling in love with the characters from Bloodwing Academy, I knew I needed to take up the prequel series by Briar Boleyn and she didn’t disappoint!
Queen of Roses is an epic fantasy adventure with plot twists, a mysterious guard, a deadly quest, forbidden and forgotten magic, and an FMC who gets more badass as the story progresses.
Told in first person from Morgan’s POV, the book delves into what it’s really like to be Arthur’s half-fae half-sister in a world where being fae could cost you your life and where Arthur is a ruthless king who is quick to violence and extreme in his decisions for his country.
Kairos Draven is the mysterious “farm boy” turned king’s guard who is tasked with protecting and travelling with Morgan to retrieve a piece of treasure from the desolate Faelands but he’s definitely keeping a secret from everyone.
Briar Boleyn also includes an adorable (albeit deadly) battle cat that latches onto the mysterious Draven and I’m really hoping it’s going to have more appearances in the future.

this is a dark fae/human arthurian retelling - in book one, you're following morgan on a journey (physically and emotionally) to locate a sword, breaking free from the fate that is expected of her, and the men who try to stand in her way.
morgan has been through so much emotional and physical abuse (check tw if needed) and i'm ngl, in the beginning morgan seemed to be very wrapped up in her life of duty and sacrifice, and came off a little entitled and naive.. but when faced with even more trauma, i was SO proud of her for standing her ground and fighting for not only herself, but the people she loves. her fem rage in this really does fuel not only her, but the reader as well.
i read OWOB and TBTB before reading this series, and i'm actually really loving this reading order so far! there's an extra layer of curiosity and mystery while reading morgan's story. i'm so interested to find out how they're all connected!
now.. kairos draven.. this man is a walking, talking green flag. he's a broody, protective caretaker and can do no wrong in my eyes ✨ “the words were a vow. a promise. i knew they were unbreakable. no matter what happened he would do as he swore.”
i actually really appreciated the pace of this first book! briar's writing is so easy to digest, even though there was a lot of ground work to cover in the beginning, when you finish the book, you understand how much we really needed it to fully understand everyone's history, and motivations. i love the direction this is going now that the world building is clear and the plot has expanded.
the last 25% of this was so WILD!! i didn't see some of the plot twists coming, and felt a little blindsided by one of them 😅 i can't wait to find out what's in store for them in court of claws!!
