3.5/4 ⭐️A Camelot retelling of sorts, very slow burn. The King Arthur references were not it for me, at times cringe. I think the story overall was intriguing and the dynamic between characters enjoyable. Would have enjoyed a smudge more character development. A good time but takes some time to get invested.
it was fun
The beginning is slow and when it picks up you do not want to put it down. The ending is bananas, did not see that coming. Check content warnings.

A great start to a series, made me want to dive straight into the next!
Great world building and really interesting characters

This Arthurian-inspired story immediately drew me in. It is a very slow-burn, slow-paced first book in the series, and this definitely allows for fabulous character development.
Morgan grows from a plain, forgotten princess into a strong woman who is beginning to embrace her heritage. King Arthur is no hero in this version but a cruel and jealous brother who will stop at nothing to feel superior.
With a will they-won't they that never quite reaches its climax, I am eagerly moving on to the next book in this fae-themed romantasy series. My only quibble was how much happens towards the end compared to the rest of the book, but thankfully there's more to come!

3.5 stars
genre: fantasy romance (barely any romance though)
spice: 1.5/5
The romance was underwhelming to say the least. I loved the worldbuilding and usually find king arthur retellings fun. It’s labeled as a fantasy romance though, and while the fantasy part was great, the romance was really lacking. It started seeming like it would be enemies to loves with forced proximity throughout their quest. Until a new guy is introduced and she dumbly falls head over heels for him immediately until he betrays her in the end (which lets be real, we knew he was gonna do that, she was blinded by him). The twist at the end actually shocked me. I knew that Draven was going to be a fae just from the way his movements were described but did not expect that! Also, Morgan was sooo annoying with her severe lack of critical thinking about the medicine she takes, and her always doing what she’s told and being submissive. I was hoping to see her develop more of a backbone but the only person she had one with was Draven. I’m tired of fmc being TSTL and sassy or submissive and meek. Why can’t the fmc be a strong fighter and smart and clever??
