I unfortunately DNFd at 40% I tried desperately to push through but I just couldn’t. I felt like that characters were inconsistent and lacked depth. Stuff is made to happen to the characters that really had no relevance to the continuation of the story whose plot wasn’t very engaging either. I found a lot of things to be over-described that really didn’t need to be which made the story to be slow going and ultimately boring. I might to revisit it in the future but at this stage it’s a dnf for me

It was a good story but did not like her brother Arthur one bit.

DNF @ 17%

The concept of the book is cool… but it was just wayyy to slow for my taste… MAYBE I’ll go back to it, but I highly doubt I will. I got it for free on a Stuff your kindle day so it’s not that big of a deal that I’m DNF-ing it

Thank you NetGalley for Queen of Roses in exchange for an honest review

Queen of roses is a twist of King Arthur with a mix of Fae. Briar Boleyn is a new to me author, and I went in pretty blond. Only recognizing it as a Fae story with King Arthur lore. The world building was great, and easy to understand and slip into the world of Camelot. I also thought the pacing was perfect! I didn’t find any parts that I struggled to get through and found it pretty fast paced for the most part. • enemies to lovers • slow burn. • magic • adventure • lgbtq+ rep

A introductory story that left me GASpat the end and wanting more! Morgan’s story is incredible. I was immediately hooked from the first chapter down to the last. I will definitely be reading book two!

***** this is a dark romance so if sexual assault or abuse is a sensitive topic for you (mostly found in the first quarter of the book) please check the trigger warnings, and take care of yourself and your mental health.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and the author for approving me to read this book! I am so eager for the next one!

Even though the FMC was frustrating at times with how trusting she was, I still loved her and her story.

Some other favorites from the book:
•I love that her and her mom both loved to read. I hope, if I have a child one day, that they’ll also share my love of reading.
•King Arthur similarities. I honestly have read or watched many Arthurian pieces, but I know a gist and of course the big names. Loved this little twist on the legend.
•Draven.
•I just love an enemies-to-lovers, slow-burn trope. Burning for that second book now!

Least Favorites
•So cringe with Vesper. I guess because I want her with Draven. Too trusting of Vesper too quickly. But then it all made sense.
•Ifound it very frustrating that she just does what she’s told, like drinking the medicine or when Whitehorn was kidnapping her. Even beginning her journey for Excalibur knowing how horrible her brother was, and hearing how worse things got from Lancelet, she still wants to bring him the sword?! She’s truly a naive character, thinking she can just talk to her brother and change his mind, or that things will go back to normal after the mission. WHAT!?

Overall, I still really loved the book and can’t wait for the next one and more Draven

I didn't think I would love this book as much as I did when I first started it. As it went on I felt so much more invested in the characters. I loved reading this book and I couldn't put it down. Now there wasn't much romance in this book and the end was slightly predictable but I think those are my only critiques. Would definitely recommend!

Thank you Netgalley for this. I grabbed this so I could read book 2.

Camelot with a fae twist!! I thoroughly enjoyed this read and am looking forward to book 2 which I’m about to dive in.

Morgan Pendragon is clueless of who she really is. She saw her mother perish, received hate from her father, was overlooked for the throne and is being harassed cruelly by an “admirer” while her brother King Arthur looks the other way and absorbs himself in obtaining more power.

King Arthur requests for her to go off and obtain Excalibur, a sword that can help if and when war approaches. With a small party Morgan is off to fulfill the king’s wishes.

It’s fast paced and it was hard to put down. And that ending had me throwing my kindle. Intrigued to know where this goes.

WHY DONT MORE PEOPLE KNOW THIS BOOK!!!

Loved the revamp of Camelot story line. Enriched with more fantasy and world building. It really is a dark fantasy. And I was fearful for the rest of the book after some events early on.

Love Morgan. Love the twists and turns. Couldn’t believe the book ended on such an awesome note. Usually I break up a series so I don’t burn out but I may have to read the rest of the series asap.

So great!
