i wanted to like this so bad but unfortunately this was not an enjoyable read for me. it also gave off a lot of FBAA vibes.

for me there was just a lot of telling and no showing. it also felt like everything was described with such unnecessary detail that i found myself skipping paragraphs because i just didn’t care.

i really thought i was going to like the fmc. i loved that she was training with the knights i was expecting to see her be a total badass but was left disappointed. the more the story went on the more i just didn’t like the fmc at all.

overall i just really wasn’t a fan and will not be continuing the series unfortunately.

This felt like a Camelot Wattpad fanfic

Read this Fantasy series... I do love a strong female character and FAE!
A really strong storyline and well written. I felt like i went right along for the ride.
This one had slow burn and enemy to lovers trope done well.
some of the scenes were sad, but i guess it is realistic- though out time, greed and selfishness have driven people.

Had promise, but the final third was constant whiplash and lost its way

It's been a while since I've read a series that's a true slow burn, I've missed it. This is definitely giving all the vibes of a romance that's going to take a while to develop.

I wasn't expecting this to be a camelot reimagining, but I enjoyed that aspect, and lancelet quickly became a character I liked. Morgan having that female friendship is important in showing us a bit more of her personality and providing some lighter moments.

As far as the plot goes, I felt this was really well paced. Sometimes books with a journey in can drag, but there's enough happening that i never felt bored.

I thought i had predicted the plot twist, but then that last chapter happened now. I can't wait to pick the next one up. I'm hoping we're going to get some much needed world building on the magic system going forward as it's unclear at the moment.

I received an advance review copy of this book, and this review represents my honest opinion. Thank you to netgalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.

I’m immediately annoyed at the mention of Merlin, Camelot, Lancelot and King Arthur. Every time I try to read and see one of their names I’m thrown out of the story and distracted by the many retellings I’ve read or watched of those characters. This story would be much better had the author picked their own names. This is definitely a slow burn book, I still can’t decide if I dislike it or not.
