More 3.5 than a 3 stars.
Where I absolutely LOVED the first book this one was a bit... I don't know. It is a short book yet it took me a while to get through it.

I missed the sisterhood in this I think. And where I am a weak person for an instalove and typical good guy being the love interest, I preferred Roan over Talin.

Maybe it was too short, too quickly. It is a nice read but I just wanted... more

Kingdom of Sea and Stone
⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was fast paced, but a typical sequel. There was unnecessary uncertainty between Talin and Nor, he was underestimating her all the time. I felt like it was just there to keep the storyline "interesting" while nothing really happened. Speaking of relationships, I also felt like Sami and Zadie were just "there", in the background. I had no connection to those two characters whatsoever.
I HATE it when the main character and the love-interest splits up! Although it didn't last for a long time in the middle of the book, they basically split up on the last page as an ending, which was extremely frustrating...
The antagonist was complex enough, he had his reasons to do what he did (other than just being evil).
This book was not as great as the first one, and it didn't live up to my expectations.

I wanted to love this book just as much as I loved the first one unfortunately it wasn't to be.

Kingdom of Sea and Stone is the second book in Crown of Coral and Pearl. It's a continuation of Nor's story. While there's a sense of adventure, danger and Nor's determinedness to do right by everyone possible to the first book the second is more unsettling, restless, and searching.

What I really loved about the first book was the world building. The Varenians, the whole concept of people being forced to live and survive in huts on the sea, it drew me in and kept me interested. There was a lot more questions and answers about the why's. In the second book we do get to discover a new land which was interesting and I wish we had more time there, it wasn't as captivating as the sea but I liked the idea of how close they were to their horses. But it felt rushed and fell a bit flat. It was underwhelming compared to the first.

I did enjoy the angst in Nor I know a bunch of people don't agree and aren't happy with the lack of the happily ever after but I liked that she wasn't suddenly happy with everything because she got the guy, she had doubts and worries, she had personal wants. I liked that her ending wasn't just be happy with Talin.

When it comes to Ceren and Nor I felt strong Maven and Mare vibes, very red Queen. Their blood bond and the visions, how he wanted her despite not necessarily liking her. And with Nor not liking the man he has become but understanding and feeling for the child that was hurt and neglected. There was no redemption arch for either.

I like the continuation of the story. I like that it builds on Nor finding herself and what she stands for. I also like Zadie's character growth and how she becomes a full person. Really liked this book.
I like that it doesn't end with a happily ever after for Talin and Nor, instead has an open ending that allows for the love but also for what Nor seeks in life.
