I've read this book about 6 times since I first picked it up in 2010. This is the one book I can say really terrified me while I read it alone in a quiet room. It's not perfect. There's some slow parts and sections that are unnecessary, but every couple of years I still return to Derry. It's hard not to love this gang of kids and want to root for them to win.

HOLY

I saw the movie before I read the book...because my dad let me watch it with him when I was four. He thought it was funny to tell me it was a nice movie about clowns, and my mom was busy tucking in my little sister. Right when the clown meets Georgie and rips his arm off, I started screaming and crying. (I guess he didn't know how scary it actually was going to be). I had horrible nightmares and have never been comfortable around clowns since. I was apprehensive about reading the book, afraid the nightmares would come back, but I managed to get through it without too much trauma. Truly a creepy book.

This is not well-written at all

Sorry it’s top 5. I cannot give an accurate review because I am broken by my enjoyment of this book. Obviously there’s a lot a lot a LOT of problematic shit. I pretend those parts don’t exist.

The book scared me almost as much as the mini series did when I was a kid and made me appreciate just how BAD the adaptation actually was.
